My First Blanket Throw

My very first attempt at a blanket!
Not your normal color choice, but that's what makes this one stand out.
I wanted to use colors that would catch the eye but would also compliment each other, I think it turned out great :D

Ok boys and girls here's my latest super soft hat done in surprise stripe.
Absolutely adorable in shades of black, pink, gray and white. When I saw this yarn on the shelf it was just screaming my name :)
Super cute too keep your princesses ears snug as a bug in a rug!

It has been a bit since I've blogged, but I have exciting news :D
I'm starting a new section to my store on Etsy soon ~ All About Babies
I have made a lot of new items but have not posted any due to an upcoming craft show at the Applefest in Sidney, Ohio during the weekend of September 10th - 12th. I'm working so hard getting a stock for this event, but after that I will have plenty of new items to list including my "All About Babies" Section. The wonderful people over at Picture Perfect Babies have been using my new items in their photography sooo cute! Here are a few examples:

Originally I was going to do this one in black tan and and red and put DAD on it for Father's Day but kind of late to be just selling that.
So without further ado . . .

She's still working away ... at 100

Mary Friese turns 100 on Saturday.
Mary Friese is busy crocheting a pink blanket for her 11th great-great-grandchild, who's expected to arrive around Christmas.
"We're not sure if it'll be a boy or a girl so after I complete this one I'll start on a blue one," said Friese, Chambersburg, who will celebrate her 100th birthday Saturday.
Blind for about 15 years, Friese is able to crochet beautiful items through touch alone. She has crocheted blankets for all her great-grand- and great-great-grandchildren and collared capes for each of her granddaughters.
Her home is filled with many of her hand-crocheted pillows and afghans, the kinds of things which she's also made for friends. She listens to tapes mailed to her from the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in Pittsburgh.
A member of Mongul United Brethren Church in Shippensburg, she was a member of Falling Spring Chapter AARP and Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Auxiliary, where she made lap robes for the residents. Friese continues to attend Golden Age Club meetings and enjoys dining out.
The almost-centenarian grew up with two brothers and two sisters on a Letterkenny Township farm. She attended a one-room school with 50 to 60 students in grades one through eight, and just one teacher.
Married to Paul Friese at age 21, she worked with him on a farm during the Great Depression.
"I worked on the farm barefooted because we couldn't afford shoes for me; then the owner of the farm gave me his old shoes to wear," she said. "We didn't have enough money to buy the registration for our car so it sat in the garage."
Instead of a tractor, they used horses on the farm, she washed clothes by hand with a washboard and got water by pumping it from a well into a bucket. They had kerosene lights, used an outhouse and she never learned to drive a car.
"I remember my father telling my husband and me, 'if you work together, you'll get along,' and he was right," she said.
"I didn't expect to live to 100," said Friese who never smoked or drank liquor.
Friese has two children, Betty Kelso and Henry Friese, both of Shippensburg; nine grandchildren; 20-plus great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren -- with one on the way.

Over 400 Mets fans set Guinness World Record for most people crocheting in the same place

More than 400 Mets fans set the Guinness World Record for most people crocheting simultaneously at Citi Field Saturday.
Most crafters - 427 in all - worked on a project in Mets-appropriate orange or blue yarn, establishing the record for most people crocheting in the same place for 15 minutes.
Crochet diva Lily Chin showed up ready to set the record in a homemade Mets uniform that she had knit herself, complete with a crocheted cap and even a mitt made out of yarn.

Weekend Re-Cap!

Went camping for the first time this year!

We love to camp, we spend most of our free weekends camping during the summertime.

Uni's dad and his wife went camping with us and what a weekend!

I got off work Friday and went to the campground and God love my dearest Unavee she had everything all set up and ready to go.

Come about 5pm the rain started off and on, fished for a bit and no takers only some bites. We had to fish close to the campsite because Uni's dad can't walk well, they kept getting caught up in the trees so we had a bright idea of breaking off some of the branches. Uni reaching for the branches and i had her waist so she wouldn't fall in pulling and tugging, about to have a big*DUH* moment, the branch snaps down we go Uni landing on me and me landing on the sharp rocks *ouch* got a big bruise on my ass the size of a softball and a bloody scrap down my arm. We laughed for a few then reality set in my butt hurt sooo bad!  lol  Then we set around the campfire til about 11pm then off to dreamland.

Saturday am woke around 9am sprinkling for a bit then about 10am we were doused so we rushed Uni's dad and wife into our tent and seated them the wind began to brew something awful. Uni and I had to hold the tent down all spread eagle. For a second there I felt like we were in Dorothy's house about to land on the wicked old witch! lol The rain began to subside and we all shuffled out of the tent only to notice Romy (Uni's dads wife) had left there tent door open *aughhhh* 2 inches of standing water. Air mattress, blankets, pillows, clothes and all drowned cats. I had to head off back home go get fresh pillows and blankies. Got back and the sprinkling continued til about 3pm *tah-dah* the sun came out for about an hour then it began to cool off and wind blowing but now more rain for the time being. We fished more and sat around the campfire listening to Jess (Uni's dad) tell stories from his childhood and some funny stories about Unavee growing up. We headed to bed around 10pm, Uni and I laid talking and I finally just dozed off about midnight the I hear a buzzing and then lights up to the tent. Uni and I peeking our heads out the window like two little kids to see what it was. I hear someone calling my name "Darla, DARLA" I'm like what?! It was the owners of the campground. He proceeded to tell us a storm was coming and hitting us about 3am tornado warning til 5am. So here we are packing up in the pitch dark and 1am in the morning I tripped over a log and busted my shin *ouch* we get everything but the tents packed up and wake Jess & Romy scared them to death I think. Headed home didn't go to bed til about 2am.

Needless to say was a rough weekend, but time was spent and memories were made. I wouldn't trade it for anything! :D

I started with a pattern but wanted it a bit more frilly so I just winged it, came out just lovely.
