BC Fashion Week Spring
Anna Kosturovas' Spring '08 line was certainly a crowd pleaser. There was lot's of cheers from the crowd but this time it was because of her launch of Anna Kosturova Girl, a line of crochet beachwear for kids.
The kids walked throughout the show instead of all at once which was great. They were all so adorable and did such a good job. Before the show, I certainly had some reservations about seeing young girls dressed in Anna's super sexy crochet bikinis. The bikini's looked bright and fun on the kids, I am still not sure if I would want my 4-year-old in a bikini, but I think the combination of lots of bright colors and accents made the kids line super marketable. The sundresses for kids were perfect. Like the bikini's they came in all the shades of the rainbow. I loved the tassel details on the dresses and on the ties for the bikinis. If I need a birthday gift for little girl, I am going to purchase one of those sundresses, they were too cute.
Anna's main line for women had lots of cool options as well. I think the huge range of color works for a large collection of swimwear like this. I particularly liked a really original kinda-one-piece, called the Gold Coast (below). Anna showcased a pair of super flashy bright yellow crochet pants (below) that were recently in Sports Illustrated as well as lots of wraps and cover-ups in tie dye fabrics. I liked an orange and pink print with sequins that was used, especially on a pair of super casual beach pants that would come in handy for sure (below). A lot of the cover-up/bikini combos could dub as an entire outfit for the day and night, you could literally go directly from the beach, put on your matching cover-up and look hot for dinner. There was also an airy sheer blouse that got a good crowd response, and I liked a white dress with big seamless, gathered sleeves, especially if it was a little longer. The show ended with a series of all white looks in crazy crochet patterns.
Although impressed by the Anna Kosturova show, be warned these bikinis are not for the timid. The aforementioned yellow crochet pants are definitely Daytona Beach Spring Break kind of pants! For those of you who want to hit the beach and get noticed these uniquely detailed and eye catching swimsuits and cover-ups are for you.

Hyperbolic Crochet Reef Comes to London
These people have some patience!!! |
The hyperbolic crochet reef started in Australia, and has travelled around the U.S. gathering beautiful creatures, made by avid crocheters, where ever it goes. Now it has come to London and it is a wonder. Using bright and vivid colours such as oranges, reds and purples, every shape from the sea has been made: shells, coral , starfish and jellyfish. One whole set is made out of black and blue beading and shines in the light with golds and silvers.
What is it? It was the brainy idea of a mathematics researcher and crocheter who realized that she could recreate in crochet 3-D models of creatures such as corals, anemones, kelps, sponges and flatworms. They all have a unique shape known as hyperbolic geometric structures and these shapes can be crocheted so that one can "hold the theorems in their hand". The "reef" has been created as a statement about the impact of global warming on the coral reefs in The Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the world. When the microscopic organisms that make up coral become stressed by environmental factors such as rising water temperatures, they become bleached out. If conditions improve the colour comes back, if not they continue to decline. Over 3,000 sq. km. of reef are lost every year.
Gifts from the Sea
The bottle reef is made of decorated rejected plastic bottles found on beaches, pens, tops of bottles and discarded take-away boxes. These have been adorned with crocheted bits of plastic and turned into works of art.
More Sea Rubbish Turned into Art
Another series has been created out of discarded plastic--the scourge of the oceans. These plastic jelly fish and other bizarre creations are made out of cable ties, video tape, hair ornaments and craft lace.
Such Lovely Colours
Crocheting continues in London. There is a hyperbolic crochet jam session with music and drinks. There are weekly crochet nights and beginners' classes as well. Join the fun, get out your needles and go to work for an important cause. :: Hayward Gallery

Crocheted creations artwork is woolly good
Just a little humor, never hurt anyone!
lol
Found this on newslite.tv
An artist has started creating crocheted versions of dangerous items which he has always wanted to play with, and then posing for elaborate photos with them.
Howie Woo has crocheted grenades, sticks of dynamite, UFOs and even ray guns from harmless wool before using his props to create the stunning images.
The 35-year-old from British Columbia, Canada said he came up with the idea last year and learnt Amigurumi - a Japanese style of crocheting or knitting stuffed characters - to help him achieve it.
"I like crocheting items that I've wanted to play with since childhood, like spaceships and ray guns," said Howie starting another of his yarns.
"Explosive devices are especially fun to crochet because I can add real life sparks without the real life danger."
Howie can spend up to two weeks making each of the items using his crochet hook, yarn, stuffing and patterns he has come up with himself.
The illustrator then poses for photos with his creations and even shoots videos in which he dresses in hired costumes and tells a story involving his crocheted creations.
In a recent video he wore a World War II uniform and added the sound effects of explosions happening around him as explained how he had made his fake grenades.
Howie added that while he has always wanted to make stone sculptures because they might last for hundreds of years he now embraces the fragile and fleeting nature of his crochet creations.
He added that he expected to be mocked for his decision to take up crocheting but was surprised by the positive responses he received.
"I have been have been overwhelmed by encouraging responses it is a very rewarding and humbling experience."
there is a cute video on this link also http://newslite.tv/2009/05/21/crocheted-creations-artwork-is.html

Queen of the Cotton Festival - 1941
The Grand Cotton Festival was held 1938-1941 and again in 1946 after World War II to showcase the area's textile manufacturing industry and to celebrate the emergence from the Great Depression.
Ran across this on Craftzine blog.
Don't you just love history.

~ ljctree ~
I'm absolutely in love the ljctree's soaps. I haven't found a product I don't absolutely LOVE yet from her shop, and believe me, I've tried a LOT of them! She also makes wonderful jewelry, face scrubs and masks not mention vintage items to boot!
I love her descriptions of the items, it makes them so unique and her items come packaged so darn cute!
So without further ado, here's the down and dirty on jjctree:
Me?
Crazy ol' cat womyn AKA that ol' green kneed granny woman, who is partial to seedlings both veggie and humanoid.
Is known to gather orange peels, bits of paper, and "treasures" from coworkers, items of unused clothing and "treasures" from family, and to curiously engage with strangers.
Is obsessed (in a NICE way, of course) with rusted bits left from plowshares and unidentified junque, wooden stumps, leaves, and other relics pushed up from Mother Earth for our visual pleasure.
Yowzaaaaaa
..:: NEWS FLASH --- there has been a significant amount of soapmaking energy coming from that little house in the woods and under those snowdrifts --- YEPPERS!!! ...there IS SOAP!!!
....and THEN..... MORE soap --- !!! Done and Curing: Carrot, Lettuce, Pearberry, Coffee Pot, and Weedpatch....
Soon to be created: Mango, Bramble, Macintosh, Ginger Ale, Cuke, Lemon Verbena, Sunwashed Linen, Peach, Chamomile Tea!!
